Colorado's purest, geothermal, gravity-fed mineral waters
THE WATER
Cottonwood offers Colorado's purest, geothermal, gravity-fed mineral hot spring waters. The waters are historically noted for their medicinal and therapeutic value. The springs were used for centuries by the Ute as a gathering place. Today, people come from all over the world to rejuvenate and restore themselves in the curative waters.
We are nestled in a high mountain natural ecosystem area of the majestic Collegiate Peaks Range, bordered by Cottonwood Creek and surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest. We are located 5.5 miles west of the picturesque town of Buena Vista, Colorado, and about 2.5 hours from Denver. Cottonwood Hot Springs is close to Monarch Ski Resort and Ski Cooper.
THE SITE
Cottonwood was originally a hotel and then a sanitarium. The original structure was located to the east of the current lodge. The water from the lower springs flowed hot and was used for medicinal and drinking purposes. The water from the upper springs was conveyed to the house by pipes and was used for medicinal and bathing purposes. The water was said to be between 132 and 150 degrees.
